Basket Weeder
Our Basket Weeder is used for between-row weeding before the crop has established and the weeds are small.
The Basket Weeder is a fast, efficient tool for early-season weed control, particularly between crop rows. It uses two rows of baskets chained with a gear ratio such that the front row spins the row behind quicker than the soil, gently uprooting shallow weeds before they become a problem. The idea is one makes two passes per row, with each pass getting as close as possible to one side of the crop.
This tool is most effective when weeds are in the white thread or cotyledon stage, often before they are even visible. It’s typically used as soon as crops have emerged and rows are visible, sometimes even in pre-emergence passes when row markers or autonomy are used. Because the Basket Weeder works shallowly and with minimal disruption, it can be run at relatively high speeds, making it a favourite for time-sensitive weed management.
It’s commonly used in tandem with later-stage tools like the Finger Weeder for complete weed control coverage from emergence to canopy. Whether you’re managing carrots, onions, lettuce, or other row crops, the Basket Weeder is an essential part of an integrated cultivation system, efficiently handling the earliest flush of weeds and setting the stage for healthy crop growth.
