Flame Weeder Test

In the fall, Werkr Tractors developed the first prototype of a covered flame weeding implement. This implement uses six propane nozzles, all supplied by a single tank, to burn wide swaths of land across the full width of the tractor. Integrated heat shields help retain heat close to the ground, allowing the tractor to operate at higher speeds while achieving the same weeding effectiveness and ensuring weeds are fully terminated. The increased operating speed also reduces propane consumption per acre, improving overall efficiency.
Thanks to the modular design of the Flame Weeder, the implement can be easily widened or narrowed to suit different tractor platforms and mission requirements.

Covered flame weeding is especially effective for crops such as carrots and other slow-germinating plants, where weeds can emerge well before the crop breaks the soil surface. This spring, we will be testing the implement on carrots and a variety of other crops to evaluate performance, identify optimal use cases, and determine areas for further improvement.
