Second big harvest of the season! This time, in anticipation of many lettuce heads, we made full use of our resources. Our tractor, loaded with pallet forks and a skid, was guided down the rows while we cut lettuce and loaded it onto the skid. Next time, we will drive the tractor autonomously!

We planted two varieties of lettuce: Parris Island, a small romaine variety, and Buttercrunch, which is a butterhead lettuce. Our heads sustained a bit of deer damage, but for the most part they did very well and were delicious!

We harvested 36 bins of lettuce heads over two days! Thanks to our volunteers and the Waterloo Region Foodbank for picking it up. This lettuce will be a part of this week's hamper that is distributed to families across the region.
